I've been advised to change the thermostat on my outboard, but I'm having a very tough time locating it on the engine. I've been viewing diagrams on web sites that sell parts but can't seem to find it that way either. After looking my engine over several times, I still can't pick it out.
The engine is a Mariner 50 HP 4 cyl with electric start, serial number 6542853. I believe it's an '84 or '85 model.
The shop manual I have is a Clymer, and it could not be more nondescript when explaining the thermostat. From this book, I get the impression that I'll need to disassemble the power head to change the thermostat. This can't be correct, can it?
I've gone over the diagrams online so many times my eyes are about to bug out of my head. Can anyone please explain where the thermostat on my engine is located? I feel like I must be missing a small housing or something.
