thermostat postion

I have a 1988 454 bravo one with the old style thermo houseing. If the thermostat is put in on top of the brass sleeve (the flange was up i beleive its supposed to go down) instead of under it will that cause the motor and risers to get hot.

I have no clue what will happen if you install it wrong, never tried. But here is how it should be installed. #7 is the sleeve.
