Hi all,

Went to the marine shop and eyballed a junker with the powerhead removed and my friend that works there showed me the 'band' below the lower pan that you all were talking about. After that I headed home to determined to rip out those thermostats.
Well they are out, and it wasn't near has tough as I was thinking it would be. I may have removed a few too many bolts. Got the undercover off, 6 bolts. Four bolts that screw the feet of the powerhead to the lower pan, Two bracket bolts where the harness wires run through, and I also removed the plastic pan under the carbs, as I was trying to get the pan to come down a little further in the back. Finally got the lower Tstat bolts out by pressing down hard on the rear of the pan, and they juuuust came out. I am going to get someone to help me on the reassembly. As you say, I had to remove the air silencer, easy but many bolts. Thanks to DJ, OBJ, Reeldutch, and Solittle for the help. When I popped the spacer plate, springs and plastic went flying. I hope nothing is missing. The checkvalves are just the spring and the plastic plunger right? Anyway, here are some pics (anything missing?). As you said, "It can be done"

Don't look like anythings missin' Horse.....inspect the bypass valve seats good for cracks and whatnot. The seats should also still be plyable. If not, replace. If the bypass valves still look good and havn't melted down, they can be reused.

Good job sofar.... :D
