thermostat removal5.7 liter mercrusier

mechanic yet to show up to winterize engineer. getting cold in ny. I used to remove thermostat in my 6 cyclinder merc.but it seems the thermostat in the 5.7 liter maybe located differently. I removed botls where hoses come in I thought thermostat would be located right there but whole section of piping and connections were released when i removed. the boldts any suggestions.

Thats how it comes apart on a v8 mercr. If you dont want to replace all gaskets,carefully remove 1 bolt and loosen the other.With a razor,see if the gasket can be easily cut to take the top off the housing.If it can, then pivot the top out of the way and put the bolt back and tighten to hold the housing from moving .Now take out the other bolt and remove the top and then put the bolt back in.If the bolt does not tighten the housing then get a few washers to take up the gap.Dont fiddle with the stat until the housing is secure .If successful you will only have to replace the 1 gasket.Charlie
