Thermostat replacement and control valves

I am going to replace my impeller this weekend and thought to myself why not replace the thermostat as well. Looking at the diagram I see the thermostat and what seems to be two control valves. My question is this: Do these fail? Lots of talk and conviction about replacing impellers frequently but I dont know about the thermostat. Can I replace the thermostat and not worry about those $10 each control valves? Any thoughts would help...

If the reference to two control valves means you are working on a V-4, then nothing ever happens to the plastic valves unless they are melted from severe overheating. In that case, you have a whole lot more to worry about than a couple pieces of plastic.

The valves itself may not be needed to change, but how old are the springs and do they still have correct tension??

Replaceing the thermo is a good idea but if the blow off valve and spring is in good condition, don't worry about it.

There is only one valve in that motor. It is plastic and nothing ever happens to it unless melted from overheating. HOWEVER, the rubber sleeve it goes in often gets mashed from corrosion of the aluminum surrounding it. Consider getting a new rubber and of course you will need a new cover gasket.
