2001 Optimax 150XL, SN 0T320979, SmartCraft instruments.

I get the occasional over-temp horn when I apply power after idling around for awhile. I bring it back to idle for a minute and everything's back to normal.

Changing the thermostats is a cheap first step. I bought the OEM thermostats and gaskets, viewed the YouTube clip, and started the job. One problem, I can't find the housings and my Optimax CD doesn't help. What look like the housings appear to be part of the head except that it has two small bolts holding it in place. See pics.

If those aren't my thermostat housings, where are they?IMG_1546.JPGIMG_1547.JPG

Re: Thermostat Replacement

Thanks for the reply.

I contacted Mercury Tech, gave them my serial number, and they gave me the part numbers for the thermostats and gaskets.

A few years ago, a Mercury dealer charged me for the replacement of the thermostats. However, the paint on the housing bolts isn't even scratched and I never heard of a dealer painting bolts after removing/replacing them. The dealer is out of business now.
