Thermostat retainer, spark plugs - getting ready for summer....if it ever comes

While witerizing my boat last fall. I had to bust the thermostat retainer to get the thermo out. I am referring to the plastic, round device that sits on top of the thermo and holds it in place. I will also need a new gasket and might just as well replace the thermostat as well.

The boat is tucked away for the winter and I cannot get at the engine serial number for at least another month - I want to have all the parts ready to put it in the water asap when the ice is gone.

Engine is a carburated mercruiser 3.0l in a bayliner 175. no power steering.

Can anyone point me in the right direction (suggest a place to order online maybe?).

Also - Spark Plugs - What model do I need?

Thanks again - The online research I have done so far has pretty much required the engine serial #...

Best regards

It's a 2003 mercruser 3 liter.

Forgot the year in my first message.

Unfortunately without a serial number you're playing your odds at las vegas if you get the right parts or not as they had some changes back then.

Can you get to your stern drive and transom serial numbers on the outside of the boat? If so get them and call a Mercruiser dealer and ask them if they would run them to see if the engine has been registered with Merc. If so, they should be able to get you the engine serial number. If not a dealer then you should be able to call or email mercruiser customer service. Contact MerCruiser Online | Mercury Marine.

If not what what are the numbers on the drive and transom to help give us an idea to work with.
