Okay, I recently purchased a '87 Rinker V190 with a 185hp 4.3L Mercruiser. The previous owner had had the impeller, bellows, shift cable, thermostat etc replaced 2 seasons ago. When we went for a test ride I noticed the temp gauge did not work. When I asked about it he said that it quit working shortly after having all the work done, but he didn't take it in and get it checked out because it did not seem to be running hot. I felt the hoses during the test ride and they were all cool...
Being more than mechanically inclined, I decided I was not worried about it and bought it anyway... I decided to put a thermostat into it, thinking it was stuck open, but when I pulled it all apart I found the thermostat loose inside the housing... No spacer.
We had planned on taking the boat out this weekend, but I don't have a spacer to put it back together with. I have found only 1 part number (23-47508), which I assume to be a Mercruiser number. I will not be able to get any OEM parts on a Sunday, but NAPA does carry Sierra parts.
So the question I have is does anyone have a Sierra part number, or know of any homebrew solutions that will allow me to have a properly operating thermostat this weekend?
Thanks in advance.
