thermostat sleeve removal 4.3 Litre Mercruiser

Hi,
How do I remove the copper thermostat sleeve on a 4.3 L mercruiser without destroying it? Just trying to change my thermostat. The engine is sea water cooled.

Sometimes they get rusted in, and they don't survive being removed.
Have you downloaded the OEM manual for your engine from the adults only sticky?

I took the entire thermo housing out, sprayed it with WD and tapped out the thermostat from below forcing the sleeve out with the thermostat. Gave me the chance to clean the housing up a little better that way also.

Tried it,
Thermostat bent and came out but sleeve stayed put. Now have it soaking in penetrating fluid? See what happens

I wish I had read this before I destroyed both my thermostat and sleeve. Now I have to replace both.
