Do you change yours or wait til it fails? How many years until they should be changed?

Re: Thermostat?

It's service depends on if you run in salt water or fresh ......
Why wait for a $10 part to fail & overheat your engine?.......

Re: Thermostat?

I'm salt, the whole Stat housing off my 350 is on the bench right now, getting cleaned up, pickled, back on in spring...stat still good for one more year (salyaway REALLY works..
Anyway, spend a few now and new and toss the old..(MARINE STAT...not the auto store varity.)

Re: Thermostat?

I just changed mine for the first time yesterday on my twin 89 5.8L. Don't know when they failed. But it dawned on me that engine taking long time to warm up plus only reached about 120-130 temp. now that it's cooler. Really makes a difference in how the engines run when at right temp.
