I have newer 4.3 ltr vortecs. Want to change thermostats but have question on what temp. They were changed once before with 160 temp. I have a friend with the same engine and he's been running 140 thermostats installed at factory. Does anyone know the proper thermostat temp for these? Is it okay to run 140 thermostats? Boat runs at 175 degrees with 160 thermoststs. Wouldn't mind running cooler... Thanks

Re: thermostat ?

....assuming you are raw water cooled and boat in mainly saltwater, 140 degree is correct to prevent (reduce) salt scaling.

Re: thermostat ?

Agreed on salt water. Fresh water..higher temperature.

The ideal temperature for engines is 195 degrees or hotter. Less wear, better economy and power. 140 degrees is a compromise.

We'll need your engine serial number to tell for sure what should be in there.;)
