Thermostat

I am waiting on a thermostat to arrive for a 4.3 Volvo Penta and was wondering if I could boat this weekend without it? The water temp will be abour 75 - 80 degrees. Is a thermostat really necessary in South Texas where the water temps never drop below 50 degrees?

the motor will never come up to running temp without a stat it may run but it will not run right <br /><br /><br />tommays
