Thermostats again

I've been tinkering with my 120 Johnson. It's a model #J120TLAEM, serial 302306410 if this is needed. I did plugs, lower unit oil, and cleaned and tighten coil mountings and ground wires. Hooked it up to water and after running a few minutes, one head was warm to the touch, the other would burn you. I have a good stream of water out the discharge port and plenty coming out the exhaust as well. I let the motor cool down and took out both t-stats. The one on the hot side was stuck closed. The warm side was stuck open. I'll get new t-stats tomorrow. The big question I have is, If the t-stat was stuck for awhile, what kind of damage could it have done? :( Coul this have caused a miss? The motor runs great, wot rpm is 5800 and is pushes my 17'Javalin about 48-50mph . I checked the compression and all cylinders were 125-130psi. All help and wisdom is greatly appreciated.

Remember, the first apostles were fishermen. :)

Leave um out. Those engines are cold natured anyways. and I see you are in Bryan. Just leave them out. They only work at idle any ways other wise they are offseated by the excess water pressure above idle.

Re: Thermostats again

If you "leave um out" you'll get a poor idle and excessive cylinder wear. The engineers put them in there for a reason. Should run around 145*F at idle.

And this thread is almost 7 years old ???????
If it came with stats then it should always be fitted with stats !!!
My 2 cents to anyone else that reads this.

No big deal. It is still good advice no matter how old the thread. Someone may well have benifitted from it since it came back up to the top again.:)
