Hey Guys,
Our family has a ranger with an Evinrude 112. If you run it at wide open throttle for a while, it will over heat. I was told it might be the thermostats. I bought some new thermostats, but dont have a clue where they go. Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
Trey
Trey@miatanut.net

You probably should invest in a shop manual. Click on "Manuals" in "Helpful links" heading.

c/6

Hooty

Hi Trey.....

Standing at the back of the engine, look below the exhaust cover. You will see an oblong box with hoses coming from either end and going to either head. There are three bolts holding the t-stat cover assembly in place. When you remove the cover, becarful as there are two springs that will shoot for the moon if they get lose.
Watch how the assembly comes apart. You will need two t-stats and two gaskets. This depending on if the bypass valves and seats are OK. OH..and two t-stat gaskets also. The bolts are a little rough to get to but it can be done.

If you can get away with not doing this until you get a manual, I would take Hooty's advice and get it before attempting the job.

Good Luck!

Are the T-stats on a 1997 up on the heads?
Doesn't sound like a T-stat problem to me anyway. Impellor is probably weak.

Check the waterpump, pump ok, check bypass valves and seats. Still overheat, remove heads and check water deflectors. If you change the waterpump impeller only, you should remove the impeller cup and replace the o-ring under the cup. You can loosen the pan bolts, push the pan down for more clearence to remove the thermostats and bypass valves.
