Bought a used Bayliner (1989)-15', trailer w/50hp Force.

Decals on boat: Bayliner (both sides)---Bass Trophy (both sides, near top of bow). All pin-striping, etc.

After extensive internet searching, couldn't find a 1989 Bass Trophy---found a few 1988; but, no 15'.

Called Bayliner to check serial number. 1989 model for sure; but, was told Bayliner didn't manufacture a Bass Trophy model in 1989. The 15' made in 1989 was a Cobra (model 1504). Interesting! Bayliner Customer Service located a 1989 Cobra brochure and mailed it to me.

Sure enough, there's my boat! No Bayliner decals or Bass Trophy decals. One "Cobra" decal on each side. All pin-striping exactly the same as mine.

The brochure was Cobra Marine, an affiliate of US Marine. No mention, whatsoever of Bayliner.

Obviously, quality control was having a bad day or it was Monday or they ran out of "Cobra" decals and subbed Bass Trophy---who knows.

I must have a rare boat cause I have not located another one like it.

Can't decide to leave the decals like they are or remove them and put Cobra decals on as, I suppose, it should be.

That's probably the story. When the end of a model year cycle comes, sometimes they mix parts from both years, depending on what's left in stock. I have a Sea-Doo like that - it's part 1990 & part 1991. Nightmare trying to buy the right spares.

Maybe the previous owner did a little cosmetic work and used what decals he could find...

Neighbor has one just like that sitting in the yard, same color and all, looks like the same Force engine. Says Bayliner on it but don't know if it has the Bass decal.

Will look next time I go by.

Is it just me or does that look like a tiny trailer for that boat? Looks like the trailer I have my 14 ft aluminum john boat on.
