i'm lookin at a used boat with a 165 il6 in it. imagine that. anyways. compression #s are.
1-125
2-119
3-130
4-138
5-125
6-124

if i'm figureing it right the spread is 14-15%

am i flirting with disaster? i thought the max spread was 10%. this boat has sat for 15 years, aledgeidly. i'm surprised it even turns over. owner says boat was fogged and stored w/ a full tank of gas. sounds like he did it right. just shouldnt have left it sit for 15 years.

another note is the drive holds pressure.......how long do ya think that'll be the case? the rubber parts should be hard by now i'd think. didn't think it'd hold pressure on that count but it did..

what do ya all think abouts them compression #'s? could i be pesimistic and think that after i starts to get some use it will seal back up.... hum....i guess i don't think that'd be likely from what i know about engines. but i have no experience with one that's sat for so long and still turns over even....

tech says he'll call me back tomorrow after a air leak test on #2.......

opinions?

I Really Don't see a Problem,..........

I've seen Worse #s in motors that ran Along Time........

Besides,....... Look at All the Spare Parts you'll have..........

If the test was done with the engine cold then I would think the numbers would come up when it's warm.

the test was done when warm. so they say. (they, being the boat dealer where the boat is sittin at) i guess i would have taken the #'s cold, then see if they improved when warm... theyve not done a wet test either...seems like a logical next step. though i've not ask for that, hinted though....
this boat is 575 miles from me so i'm haveing to rely on the techs where the boat is......they are being pretty nice(helpful) so far. aledgedly doing the test's that i am askin for. though i will say they are not offering any extra insight on this boat other than it's the cleanest thing they've seen....like someone esle said. i've heard that before...
glad ya don't see and issue in themz #'s bondo. that's inspireing. i respect yer opinions. spec on the compression #'s is 140... and yes. i would have a few parts extra layin around... that would be nice. though an engine is not one of the parts....:( my heads ok though, just needs a rebuild...:'(
i guess i am just paranoid about gettin more junk. that i don't need......but i do want to get back on the water......

i guess i would think there would be rust inside the engine. was stored in a aircraft hanger. does anybody think the #'s could improve with use. or maybe it's got a stuck ring and i'll be hosed quick too. maybe a little marval mystry oil prior to usein it? ......no matter how hard i try, buyin a used boat sure seems to be a gamble at best.....
