I'm considering picking up an '89 Capri Bowrider for about $1000. I guess my main questions are what things should I look out for? I'm new to boats, but my father-in-law will be going to check out the boat with me. I've heard they can have problems with the transom and the floor. Another thing that concerns me is the seller says everything works fine, but he doesn't have the key. What should I be on the lookout for and walk away if I see?

Here's a few things about it in the ad:

"Low hours on boat with excellent trailer with perfect tires and spare, new winch and strap.

4 cylinder inboard outboard volvo, fresh water cooled motor. It has been sitting so the carb will need to be cleaned.

This was a fresh water lake boat and never used in salt water.

Interior is all there but it is sun damaged and cracked. Has a bimini top and boot. Very solid boat and motor."

check the floors for soft spots/rot. any rotted wood will lead to more rotted wood. I got mine for around the same price, and it has turned out to be a pretty sweet little boat, as long as you are able to put time in doing the interior, waxing, cleaning, etc. to make the best of what you have.
