I cant find any information about this hole. I have a 1979 MFG Caprice, 140HP with Stringer 400.

When I have her on the muffs, water comes out of this hole, but its not always a good stream. It will be weak for a little bit, but then get stronger. after she warms up some, it is kind of on and off. Im not sure what to think... In the manual that I have(seloc) It says the tattle-tale stream comes from up top the outdrive, but picture is not my unit, so I think thats completely wrong. Anyone have any thoughts? Do you guys think that my impeller is going? Or is it a different problem?

Thanks!

that hole just drains the cavity from the intake screen to the impeller so it doesn't freeze crack in the winter. watching water come out it is not a valid test of anything, and has little to do with the the impeller's condition.

Ok, that is good to know. Thank you.I was basing the title of this thread on what I saw happening with this hole. Im looking through the Seloc book, and I am not finding anything that says "This means your impeller is bad" How would you know if it was, just if the engine overheated?

That would be one way to know, another is to take the hose off that comes from your lower unit, at the circulating pump on the engine and see how much water is coming out. I've read on here where the average height should be around 7" from the end of the hose to the to of the water coming out of the hose. Someone correct me if I'm wrong please.
