Thinking of buying 1989 Force 150hp.

nobody owns force now. mercury took them over and then just kinda fased them out. they are no longer in production. parts and service can be real hard to come by, and they were kinds shunned by a lot of people. but yet there are those out there who SWEAR by them, but they are few and far between.

I wouldn't buy any Force older than 1995, and then only if it was real real cheap, and in perfect condition.<br /><br />The 1989 you are looking at has an ignition system that is obsolete-three times over.<br />More than a handful to sync the carbs.<br />A poor lower unit.<br />Prone to overheating.<br />Dinosaur of a tilt and trim system.

Have to go with Roscoe here. I have a 88 125 on a 20' Bayliner Cuddy that was bought from the owner 10 years ago, and it was still at the shop after a tilt/trim repair when I picked it up. Then the stator and one power pack went south. Then I snapped the one piece driveshaft at the place that likes to corrode at the top, and it steams a lot after a 1/2 throttle run. Still, its runs fine the last 3 years with a Honda Kicker staring at it all the time to keep it in line!
