Have to go with Roscoe here. I have a 88 125 on a 20' Bayliner Cuddy that was bought from the owner 10 years ago, and it was still at the shop after a tilt/trim repair when I picked it up. Then the stator and one power pack went south. Then I snapped the one piece driveshaft at the place that likes to corrode at the top, and it steams a lot after a 1/2 throttle run. Still, its runs fine the last 3 years with a Honda Kicker staring at it all the time to keep it in line!Originally posted by roscoe:
The 1989 you are looking at has an ignition system that is obsolete-three times over.
More than a handful to sync the carbs.
A poor lower unit.
Prone to overheating.
Dinosaur of a tilt and trim system.
