A 1989 24ft Grumman Pontoon Boat w/ bunk board type trailer

I resealed the wood decking and used new galvanized screws to adhere the decking, installed new
Pontoon Boat Carpeting (blue) A new $1500.00 pontoon furniture package (see pictures), they
have a plastic base so they will not rot like the original wooden ones. Entire boat was re-wired
(soldered and sealed connections)Chromed diamond plate helm dash plate, new outdoor
switches for lighting and air horns(loud) Garmin -- GPSMAP 440s W/fish finder
2- new 12gallon fuel tanks (good range) 04/1998 50HP Evinrude motor (runs real well)
Solar panel battery charger, 2 fluke style anchors (6lb & 8lb) 3 -- dock bumpers, 2 fire extinguishers,
Newer flares, AM/FM/CD/MP3 Player w/ 2 speakers, approx 7 floatation devices (1 throw able)

Trailer has 2 newer tires (4 total) with bearing buddies, also has 1 new spare tire, trailer also newly re-wired
(4 plug)(soldered & sealed) has step that provide easy access to boat, trailer needs new bunk boards (2x4's)
But I do have new carpet for the bunk boards(specifically for bunk boards)

PS: we are selling the boat because our pickup died and my Toyota Camry wont tow it.

what would you expect something like this to sell for?

Depends where you are, different parts of the country have different prices and remember even though it has alot of new stuff on it it is still a 22 year old boat.

Off the top of my head I would say around $5000-$7000, he doesn't give a price or you are just testing us?

That does have some nice stuff on it and would seem to come with everything you need to get out on the water and if his description is right he rebuilt it the right way, '98 is a good year for that engine and you would love the Garmin, I have one and they are awsome, I don't know about the chrome dash though, seems like it would be kinda bright out on the water.

Re: Thinking of Buying 1989 Grumman 24 Ft Pontoon

he is just outside of the Philadelphia area in PA.
he is asking $6600 but gave me a bottom line number of $5100
the dash did seem a bit tacky to me.
I did check it out already, it is super clean looking under and above deck. no soft spots I could find (and I'm a big guy)
the only issue I found when inspecting it was heavy smoke when it first started with muffs on. when we shut it down, it wouldnt restart. my guess the plugs got fouled. is there anything to worry about the heavy smoke? it was oil injected.

my friend who went with me knows boats and thought $5100 was too high, he thought it should go for $4000.

dont know if these links to images will work or not.

Motor needs attention, boat needs more furniture, rig is 23 years old and is not a desirable brand for barges. I wouldn't even consider it further, but that's just my opinion, which is worth exactly $5100 less than he's asking for the boat.;) If I had to pick a number it would probably start with a three, but definitely not a five.

I'm no master pontoon boat owner to say the least, haven't messed with them in a while but this is what I think...........I think it's a $3500 boat based on the fact that it still needs furniture (we all know it ain't cheap) and trailer work. Have the toons been pressure tested? Why did he opt to just seal the decking? Was it already rotting? The dash is gawdy but will pass- but it's gonna be a glare monster in my opinion. Was the wiring a hack job, or was it done properly? Look under the dash. How's the power distribution panel? New as well? What's your investment going to be in this thing after you get it setup how you want it?

Re: Thinking of Buying 1989 Grumman 24 Ft Pontoon

I'm looking to use it as a fishing/crabbing unit, so the missing furniture in the front isnt a big turn off. repairing the bunks to me is also no big deal as I have access to tools and wood to repair it.
toons have not been pressure tested to my knowledge.
the deck was solid as my 300+ pound frame will confirm from walking on it.
did not inspect the wiring.
I would probably not add anything to it as it is. just install the pedestal seats somewhere.
I have a $6000 budget to get a pontoon boat.

Re: Thinking of Buying 1989 Grumman 24 Ft Pontoon

to me it seems a little high for our area.i stopped and looked at an older party barge last sunday it was 24 feet clean as a bell older boat but had a newer yamaha 4 stroke engine dont remeber what size but was bigger than my 75hp.boat wasnt flawless but was really clean with double bimimis and all the seats had been redone last year tandem axle trailer he was asking 6000.00 and was beggin me to make an offer.

i guess it comes down to what ever you feel good about.

me i like to leave the sale looking over my shoulder to see if the cops are following.because i just stole it:D

Is the engine an 89 or 98? fogging and fouling could be due to winterization and old gas so you need to check that out. If the engine is solid and the boat and trailer are in reasonbly good shape the package might be about the best you can do on your budget. You can find plenty of used pontoons for 6K or less, but most will be in need of refurb. This one already has new carpet and furniture--probably cost a couple of grand for that. Like others say, try to go for 4
