Im looking at a 1985 25 ft sportsman, powerred by twin 140 horse 4 cyl sterndrives.
Owner says he has no idea of boats condition, it was his deceased fathers, estate sale. The glass is in good condition, no spider cracks, clean throughout, steeringwont turn the outdrives, no batteries so cant start. Engines are not leaking oil but have not run in years. its on a solid twin axle trailer and the entire rig can be had for $2000.00 . trailer has new tires, was redone to tow it from michigan to virginia. last in the water 5 years ago. is it worth the $2000 gamble?
are those engines dependable?

Definitely a huge gamble....I would pass if it was me but thats only because I dont have the 10-12k it could reasonably take to get that boat running again. Get a battery and at least do a compression test on the engines .

Chances are GREAT that to buy that boat for 2K without any further inpsection you are throwing 2K away. should it be a complete wast could you part it out to get back your 2K ....maybe but why dont you try to find out if its a junker before you buy it.
