I am thinking of a possible upgrade from my 14ft '92 Northwood/25hp Evinrude to a '88 Starcraft 16ft with a 60hp Johnson. An older boat, but it is in exceptional condition, and would be alot more boat than what I have now. Asking price is 5,900. Sounds a bit high to me. Couple of small pics below. Any advice or comments appreciated. I'm up in Michigan, so presumably this boat has had all fresh water seasonal use.

I am not familiar with that make of boat, but it seems a little high to me as well. I am assuming it is because it is being sold by a dealer type rather than a private seller. I have always used one philosophy when selling anything ?an ounce of appearance is worth a pound of performance" and the better it looks the more money you can get for it, and age of the item doesn?t apply with this philosophy. I would keep looking and see if you can find any comps to confirm if it is in fact overpriced.

That Starcraft looks like a great boat! (although I may be a bit biased). However I do think the price is high. I would think $4000 would be more reasonable. I would not be concerned about the age. Head on down to the restoration section. There's like 20 of us or more working on Starcrafts from the 60's and early 70's and mainly what we're doing is replacing rotted wood which isn't a big deal on these boats. An '88 Johnson 60 is also a great motor with ample parts and service support.

Thanks alot for the replies, very interesting to hear others opinions and advice. I did check out your project ezmobe, looks fantastic. I'm glad to hear that the Johnson has readily available parts if need be too.

Well I went to take a look at it and I ended up buying it, paid 5,300. It really is in exceptional shape. Motor sounds very good, even compression.
Alot more boat than what I had. Now to try and sell my 14ft Northwood.
