I am looking at this boat, purchase pending sea trial, as i was looking at pictures i took i noticed that there is some sort of pin-striping/decal on the port side of the boat that is NOT on the starboard side

Im thinking it is
A. Supposed to be like this or
B. the boat was damaged and they forgot to reapply the pin-stripping after fixing the damage or
C. the pin-stripping fell off or got pealed off for some unknown reason

I plan on asking the seller next time i see him but was wondering if it was a "typical boat thing"

I'd guess that it is choice C. However, it seems strange they would remove them from only one side. That said the ones that are there don't look like factory Four Winns stripes. It could be the ones that are on one side were added and they didn't finish putting them on the other side.

I'll go with RR's thought...they are after market and they put it on one side and never did the other side for some reason? Seems strange that it would come completely off clean on the other side with no remants.

But like said take the other one off and call it done.

A roll of pinstripe tape is about $25 IIRC. One side got damaged so he took it off, hoping no one would see both sides at once! People used to do that with hubcaps on cars.
Damage could be from cleaning. Don't sweat it

We just bought our boat and it was missing a section of the pinstripe. The owner told us that it was intentionally left off because it was directly under the overflow of the fuel tank filler. However, we dont like the way it looks and plan on splicing a piece back in this winter.

Most likely lifted off by fuel running down the side of the boat when filling, we see it all the time.

By all means, check for damage, but...

welcome to the wonderful world of the P.O. (previous owner). There's ALWAYS something that'll leave you shaking your head. :)

Good luck!

As others have said, certainly check for damage. But it could just be that perhaps that side was exposed a lot more to the sun and it started looking like crap so he took it off. Or being aftermarket, maybe one side wasn't prepared properly and it fell off.

Re: this may be a dumb question

You know, I did actually buy a boat last fall that had an obvious sticker add on that was in fact hiding serious hull damage. I knew it was hiding something when I bought it. I thought it was simply hiding a minor issue such as peeling paint. It was also obvious that the boat had been painted.

I didn't know there was serious issue until I was taking off the stickers.

See the blue oval on the side:

There was a matching one on the other side, however, under the one in the picture there was some poorly repaired damage from a puncture that had allowed water to enter in between the layers of the hull. This particular boat had a foam cored hull and the water and the damage it did when it freezes really compromised the rigidity of the hull.

So, I am actually no very cautious when I see extra/aftermarket stickers on a boat.

That said I think most times it is other circumstances that leads to it.

Test drove the boat today, seams like it was option C according to the seller, docked it a few too many times and the bumpers wore off the pin-stripping, so he just took it all off so it didnt look like crap.

Well I might have done the same thing except I would have removed it from both sides.

Kind of like a woman getting only one breast enhanced!
