Re: This number (18-154101) is on this engine. Anyone know what engine it is?
I don't regognize the number, but It's a Tecumseh engine, Eska leg, late 70's early 80's, and it has the world renowned loser Tecumseh solid state ignition. Those SSI's are world renowned for their sky high failure rate. Replacemnets are not available, although CDI makes an after market replacement, but it costs more than most people would pay for the engine at $250. Lots of those engines were sold by Sears, and if that's the case with yours, there will be a sticker with a model number looking like 217.xxxxxx. Failing that, there should be an aluminum tag on the right side as you face the carburetor with stamped engine numbers, probably looking like 640-XX. That'd be the Tecumseh engine number. I expect one of the forum's experts will be along shortly to comment further. BTW - In that second pic, what's that dark rectangle on the bottom front left corner of the cowl? Is that a sticker? If it is, you'll find the 217.XXXXXX number there, and you can plug it into a model search at searspartsdirect.com, and get a blowup of it. Certified Parts Corporation, and boatsportandtackle.com will have lots of parts. Don't buy parts from sears, they will rape you. Does that engine have spark? Do NOT turn that engine over without a grounded plug in the boot.
