Well this weekend i got my yard moved around and got the boat moved in where i can work on it. The inside was a mes it was full of leaves. I vacuumed it out and then tried the moter i hooked up the water and gas and it started right up and seem to run pretty good then i poled the seats and carpet out and found a rot hole in the bow of the boat so i started to cut the deck out and found the foam was very wet then went to the stern and started taking out the deck and foam. The foam by the transom all most dry but it gets wetter moving forward well i am going to get the rest of the deck and foam out and take a good look at the transom and stringers.I will post back when i get the rest riped out. Thanks Brian

more than likely the stringers are rotten. and it would be safe to say that the transom may need to be replaced as well. check it out thoroughly. you got a great boat there. you will get lots of help here as well. you can check out my links and other members links as well for some ideas. good luck.

Hy there tallcanadian. I looked at your pic. and your move it is very good. I am fingering on doing a total rebuild. I saw that you removed the top of your boat off i was wondering how you did it { was it hard to do ? } I am going to build a temp. shed around it and enclose it so i can keep it warm this winter. I will build the roof strong enough to lift the top off like you did and build a cradle for the boat so i can take the trailer out so i can rebunk and pant it. Thanks for your help Brian.

Re: This old boat

Well here is an update on my project. after a time out fore a snow storm i got back to work and made a motor stand and pulled the motor off to get the top off polling the top off was not as bad as i thought pulled the rubber off drilled out the rivets an a few screws and it separated. I called up my buddy's to help me lift the top off Sunday and have a BBQ but nobody showed up except my sun Kenny he just got back from Saudi Arabia he is in the Air force. He is a F-16 crew chief and i am very happy he is back.

when the weather clears i can finish gutting out the hull and take a closer look at the transom

Go get a portable shed, the kind you put together and stretch a tarp over. You can get them at Home Depot. I bought a 10'x20' for about $100 bucks. Its waterproof, snowproof and you can weight the legs down to stop it from blowing away if it gets windy. I used one to entirely rebuild a 21 footer in my driveway over the course of a year. Whatever you do, don't do any fiberglassing in those weather conditions, too damp and cold to get a proper cure and any new wood you put in will absorb all that humidity and prevent the resin from sticking to the wood.

Just my 2 cents.....

Well it stopped raining for a Little wile to day so i started to gut her out sum more and digging in to the transom it is hard to tell how bad it is it is wet under the fiberglass down by the drane but the wood seems to be soled above that it is dry i drilled some holes around the drane and the wood was wet looking but knot black and about 3" above that it looks the same but dry i will know more this week end it is supposed to stop raining by then the stringers a the other hand are junk. I was wondering if the transom wood be all right if it dried out.Well it started to rain again maybe i should start building a ark. Have fun Brian
