Milwaukee Explosion

I could see the smoke from this on my drive to class this morning. I can't recall if it said this in the article, but this is one of Milwaukee's oldest businesses. It started as a brewery before we even became a state and has been making gears for well over 100 years. The Menomonee River Valley used to be home to a lot of factories......it is what caused this city to become what it is now. Though now many of those have been abondoned.

The local news site is saying at least 2 dead, with more than 30 injured.

Wow!! Nasty. Does sound like a gas (Propane/LPG) leak, but these explosions never start "in the tank" as there is no air in there.

I know a woman who survived one of these deals. Lots of operations (burns) and emotional scars :(

An early report I heard today said that they discovered the propane leak and started evacuations, then the explosion.

My parents live approx 10 miles as the crow flies from this, mom heard it while sitting at the kitchen table.

Other reports of hearing the explosion have come in fro Muskego and Port Washington, both are about 30 miles away.

Penfield Children's Society is about 1.3 miles north of the explosion. They had the windows blown out of the building.

Sure glad it didn't take out the Aldridge Chemical warehouse. That would have been a disaster of unprecedented proportions.

I agree it is surprising more werent hurt looking at the damage.

If I hadn't been driving I'm wondering if I would've heard it from my house. I live maybe 15-20 miles away.

It could have been so much worse
