Got my new truck (not brand new) to pull my 27' cabin cruiser. Being the first time of using it would be pulling it out of the water at the end of the season.

I back the tri axle trailer down into the water. Get about half in and it stops. I gas it up and push the trailer further in. All seems okay. I go get the boat from the slip, and precedded to load it up on the trailer. Pulled it up the ramp without any problems except the boat wasn't sitting right on the bunks and wasn't far enough up on the trailer. So I back it back in and again it seemed to stop like I was hitting some submerged rocks. Other friends was telling me about a rockpile that was under the water and I thought that I was just backing over it since my tailer is longer than most that use this ramp.

Got everything lined back up and went to pull out. The ole diesel was struggling to pull it back out. Gave it some more throttle, belching out black smoke and truck is bogging down and not moving.

Got out of the truck a preceeded to get wet by going into the water to see what I was hung up on. Couldn't find anything.

Got back into the truck, put it into drive 1, released the emergency brake and it pulled out without a problem. Scratching my head trying to figure this one out. Then I realized I left the frigging parking brake on!

At least I know the parking brake will hold the power of the truck! Felt stupid all the way home and being misrable from being wet.....

SS

At least you didnt hit an anchor. They have been known to hang around boat ramps,, and we all know how much anchors love the water. :D

Man I'm dissapointed, I was waiting for you to say you had backed the trailer off the concrete and tore an axle off!

Just disconect the parking break so that never happens again....and then you will have another story for us in the spring when you relaunch it. :D

neumanns, no way am I going to disconnect that brake. I have seen plenty pictures and stories of people depending on just the park to hold them there. Once one wheel starts slipping, the park mechinism doesn't work. Then yor tow is in the water. :(

This incident is like the plug. If you forgot it once, you usually always remember after that. :D

What neumanns said. If you are afraid to disconnect the parking brake, carry a spare anchor with you. Back down the ramp till the wheels are just in the water and put the anchor behind the wheels. You won't have to worry about the anchor, because we all know that anchors love water! Then, when you pull out, you can leave the anchor there for someone else to find. Then we might even get 2 new "Stupid Human Tricks" threads started! It will be great.

Hosnest, you can trust us! We wouldn't steer you wrong. Right Neumanns? ;) :D

If your afraid of leaving the anchor on the ramp after launch just leave it on the rope, run the rope over the transom, tie a half hitch to the lower unit and then put the anchor between the rear trailer wheel and the middle one. That way if you forget, it wont get left on the ramp. :D

Maybe we can get three threads out of this come spring.

Sorry SS Mayfloat, I have no idea why you deserve such treatment. Just consider it equal oppertunity harrasment.
