I recently bought a 90' Thompson 200 cuddy cabin w/5.0 mercruiser I/O. The boat has plenty of power, and jumps on plain quickly. Bought it to get back on the water cheap. Will be using it to fish 2-3 ppl on the delaware bay, and take sunday cruises on the river.

My question: Does anyone know anything about these boats track record? Im aware they used alot of wood in the construction, and didn't use enough fiberglass to laminate it. But is there anything else i need to look out for? I bought it in hopes of getting 4-5 seasons out of it and moving up to a walkaround fishing boat which is what i've always wanted.

Re: Thompson 200 Carrera

Too broad of an issue.

The whole hull needs to be checked for structural integrity. The floors and everything should be firm, rot free and free of soft spots. The transom needs to be checked thoroughly. If they didn't glass up very well, the floor and transom would be hurting.

It all depends on how it was used and cared for. If it was covered and stored properly, it could be a so-so boat when made and yet be better than a top quality boat that was neglected. Way too many variables to answer your questions.

Find anyone nearby with any experience and get that boat a good looking over.

Where are you located that you will be on the DE Bay?

I hope you know this: The DE bay ain't no joke. Hope the package is safe.

Re: Thompson 200 Carrera

I've checked all of that before i bought it. We plan on replacing the rear section of the floor, because it's soft. We tore a section up to look at the stringers and they were solid, no damage has been done to them so far. I'm just trying to keep the boat as dry as possible. I do has one soft spot in the transom that I will be fixing with Git Rot or something similar. It's just not bad enough to tear into.

I live in SE Pa, and fish the Jersey shore. We don't go out very far in the delaware bay no more than 2miles from Fortescue or the Maurice River. We've always had smaller boats and have been pretty far out on calm days. No I won't be going "OUTSIDE" on this boat lol.

Im really just trying to see if anyone else has had experience with this boat. How they liked it and if and why they got rid of it.

Re: Thompson 200 Carrera

Thanks for the link, but that seems to be for classic or more collectable Thompsons. It seems after the mid-80's thompson was more of a run of the mill boat, not saying it's bad just similar to all the rest
