We bought a new Boston Whaler this year. Boy, when they rig a boat they surely know what they are doing. The engine is not on the transom, it's raised up several notches. The prop is a premium model and its set up to exactly hit full spec rpm at WOT. The hull design provides an awesome ride, and the setup awesome performance.

So, what is there to modify or complain about? Nothing.

So, what good is a foil? Why fix what isn't broken!

Curiosity got the best of me. After putting DoelFins on 4 other boats over a 30+ year period, and improving performance each time, I said "what the heck?"

Holy mackeral! She literally jumps on plane, holds plane better in all kinds of rough conditions and to my surprise it has eliminated all high speed steering torque. All for 15 minutes work and $28.

Plenty of debate here about fins vs. tabs. Had a boat with a fin, didn't care for it. Swapped it for Smart Tabs and it transformed the boat. Faster to plane with less bow rise, and much more stable than with the fin. So, there ya go :joyous:
