Holy crapola:

reading all your posts on "SOFT Water" fishing really makes me long for the summer. The lake I live on still has over 18 inches of ice. To pour vinegar on an already painful paper cut, I just spent the last couple of hours snowblowing my 200 foot long driveway so I could get in. Man you guys down south have it sweet. Think I'll go sit in my boat and practice some flipping or something.

I have been going out and "sitting" in my boat for about a month now throwing a spinnerbait around some at the neighbor's dog.
It loves them things. :D

I have been fishing all winter. This month I even have a camping trip planned. That is the reason I live down south. :D One other reason is because I was born here and am either to poor or to dumb
to move. :)

Also plowed 10 inches of snow off the driveway this AM, then went and knocked snow off the boat cover.

At least we have the calendar in our favor....and it's only gonna be around for a little longer.

I've also got bad "cabin feaver" and found going to the store to buy a few baits makes me feel alot better. Got a few new ones I can't wait to dip.

Although the opportunity to fish often develops invaluable experience, I do enjoy the downtime to educate myself (books, magazines, videos, sport shows, etc.) on techniques and strategies while the boat is winterized. The anticipation caused by gated up knowledge and new ideas are something the guy that fishes every day will rarely experience.

Cwilt -- dont feel sorry for them. They knew it would snow up there this winter. They had all summer to move.

I'll take the snow after what you guys had down there this year. After the first Hcane you had time to move out of whats left of Port Charlotte too. I don't mind the snow. Had 22" two day before Christmas. This was very unusual here and have only had 3" since. Makes you appreciate the time you do get to spend on the water. The reason we didn't move is because by the time we figured out what was happening we were too busy fighting it and then got snowed in.

Life is too short to spend half of it weathered in. Hurricanes cause the less well prepared to suffer more as does living too far south or too near the coast. Match boxes called mobile homes are a rip off of the naive older population newly arrrived from up north. The sharks selling these tornado and hurricane magnets to them also arrived from up north some years ago and have had years to polish their spiels. I spent my time in Wisconsin, Chicago, and Michigan and was treated well and enjoyed the summers and beauty of the area but came back south at the first opportunity. There are many different "souths" just a few miles apart. Travel around until you find one that suits you. I did and have never looked back.

agitator you are right. I do like the change of seasons though. I also enjoy hunting and don't think that it would be as nice doing it when it is 70 degrees. My folks always spent March and April just north of Daytona and we would go down and visit. It was always 50 and rain. Up here we would have 40 and rain. Both boring but didn't have to travel as far to see rain. Have friends in the Carolinas, southern Alabama, and Michigan. All have their pros and cons.

Yep, every place has the good & bad. We havent had a hurricane here in Punta Gorda / Port Charlotte for 44 years. Lulled everybody into a false sence of security.

Cracks me up when I hear folks around here talk about all the hurricanes we've had here. Got a few clouds and some light rain from Andrew. All the ones that hit Louisiana, Alabama, Texas etc were pretty far offshore when the went by us. A little rain but no big deal at all. Summer squalls have been worse.

And yep -- Charley did a few million $$$ worth of improvements to the trailer parks. And man oh man did the real estate prices take a jump! Unbelievable.

Everybody has their special place. Lots of folks bailed out after the first storm here. I wouldn't. Hurricanes are like the snow. You know its coming -- get prepared. I'd be way more concerned about tornados and eartquakes. Actually around here I'm more worried about fires than hurricanes.

One of the worst parts of the hurricane was the scum suckers and looters that showed up afterwards. And there were no phones of any kind working. So when you shot a looter, aim well.
