was browsing some parts and confused myself, boat is a 97 4.3lx 2bbl the icm looks like a tbiv and is bolted to the back of the distributor with a single connector on it, but when i type in the icm part number there is an updated part that looks like a tb v icm that comes with 2 connectors and harness pigtails. only worried cause i set my timing tonight and didnt ground out the purple/yellow wire as i assumed it was a tbiv
serial number is 0k167737
icm part number is 807829t1

The engine serial number has your engine to be a 1997 MERCRUISER Thunderbolt 5 (TB5), W/PS, 3"RISER, WORO, GEN+ 4.3LX ALPHA, Model Number 443LF00KS.

Some of the early TB5's had a one connector plug before going to a two connector plug design....Your TB5 sounds like it may look something like this design, 808019-1 https://marinesurplus.com/products/mercruiser-4-3lx-bravo-icm-ignition-control-module-808019-bx11

Item 34, https://www.perfprotech.com/mercury...ical-components/assembly/1937/40?umodel=16506
https://www.perfprotech.com/mercury-marine-parts-catalog/umodel/16506

All the older one plug designs are superseding to the two plug kit design you mentioned/seen....http://www.ebay.com/itm/Mercruiser-...on-Kit-ECU-ECM-861251A1-V6-4-3L-/180989610587

THUNDERBOLT V IGNITION SYSTEM ...If you have the base timing lead wire to ground out and you change the timing without using it, you'll want to readjust the ignition timing the correct way to be safe.
