I just picked up a mercury 80 hp from a guy for a steal! he said it doesnt run for more than a min, and dies...probably needs a LOT of $$ to fix

I took it home, emptied the gas, and started it right up with new gas! the old stuff was sitting for 5 years....and looking in the container I put the old gas in, the bottom 3rd of it is water wow

That's great!...now install a fuel/water seperater on your transom to catch any water or debris in the fuel system. Walmart/Attwood Fuel/Water Seperater($27), easy to install...great preventive maintenance! Good Luck!

outstanding .... installing a fuel filter with water separator is a very good idea .... is the boat's gas tank built it or a portable unit

My buddy and I buy and sell small outboards. I can't tell you how many non-runners we have picked up cheap and it turned out to be gas or points.
