Thoughts on the Images of my Rotor and Distrubutor Cap?

I hate to admit, this is the first time I have changed the rotor and distributor cap on ANYTHING I have owned. For those that have much more knowledge about these things than I; how do these look?

I have not had a chance to run it yet as the rain came in as I was finishing up the replacement. Please and thanks.

From my uneducated eye, I would certainly think it would run better (or at least more efficient) with the new rotor and distributor cap.

Yep - Way past due. How are the spark plugs and wire?

The plugs were not too bad (but in need of changing), but the wires looked pretty rough. I replaced everything. The boat ran fine, but sure seemed to lack power at times. Thanks for the replies. I thought they looked pretty awful.

Oops. Just noticed I apparently could not spell "distributor" correct in my original post...nice.

No, you were right. Your sparks were disturbed. LOL

Is she running better now?

The carbon deposits can lead to the plug misfiring and the detonation timing be off.
Just a bit but off none the less.
New wires and cap/rotor will make it run better.
The stuff is 16 and way beyond replacing.

Do a compression test.

Mine look the same at the start of each season after winter storage out of the water. A quick polish with a nylon rotary brush on the Dremel gets them shining again. my boat is used in salt water and I am inclined to think that is the main cause. I am on my 3rd cap, 1st was brass, 2nd was alloy and now 3rd cap is brass contact posts. The replacements were not because of miss firing, but a "just in case". I'd clean the old cap up and run the motor with it then change it out for the new on and see if you can notice any difference, if not then keep the old one as a spare.
