I bought another outboard today, very reasonably priced. The numbers are E90nlcrd. What are your thoughts on durability, etc.? compression is 100-105 on all 4 cylinders.

Re: thoughts on this outboard?

Does it have power tilt/trim? It might actually be E90TLCRD.....Evinrude 90hp longshaft with power tilt/trim '84 model.....great motors, is it still running the VRO?.....those compression readings are acceptable, they may even improve a little after a decarb.

EDIT: E90MLCRD is another variant of that motor, maybe this is what you have, not sure what the difference is between the two....

Thanks for the responce, yes it does have power trim and tilt, the numbers were kind of hard to see on the tag or i'm just not ready to admit I can't see has well as I could 10 years ago! I bought the motor for $400, it's starts right up. I will probably go through it, never done alot with outboards, it would be a good learning experiance. For the money, I think it was a good deal...

The M is for manual tilt-electric start

It must have had the PTT added at some stage then, there's your 400 bucks just about covered right there. :D

Do yourself a favour and check out the sticky "top secret file" for things to check on your motor......

Food for thought.....if its still running the VRO you might want to consider disabling it and just running premix, im not sure how much faith i would have in an almost now 30 year old system.

It has been disabled, I would much rather just premix on something this old as well...

Don't forget to decarb it. If it is in good shape, that is going to be a sweetheart of a motor!
