Hi all. I'm just wraping up a carb rebuild on a Johnson 55. I want to make sure that the six screws that hold the air silencer on never, ever, come loose. That would not imo be a good thing. I've had good luck with Loctite blue on automotive applications. Also with red, but on larger bolts ( more surface area) I would have a pretty hard time breaking a red coated bolt loose if I ever need to take it off again. Thinking maybe on such a small screw red might be ok. Maybe just dipping the screw in some contact cement, letting it cure up and then installing it.The screws that came out had a sealent of some kind on them. But once you take them out it's pretty much gone. What have you guys used on a screw that is kinda hidden so you can't easily do a periodic check on it like you would let's say a starter motor or LU bolt?

Re: thread locker question

Blue if you want to be able to take it out. Red if you want it to stay in there forever. You can remove the red by heating to 300 degrees though. But a torch probably isn't a nice tool to use around a carburetor.
