Throttle adjustment

I recently replaced my throttle cable on my 2018 etec 60hp. Took it out and ran good till we stopped. Than the trouble. Won’t rev, from what I have read the throttle is out of adjustment and the computer is not letting it rev. How to I adjust it correctly? And does the computer have to be reset? Is a laptop and software required to zero the TPS?

first just make certain the throttle linkage roller does not touch the TPS...when starting otherwise the EMM will think you may be planing a winterize or cause a code 11 fault ( TPS out of idle position) . it will limit rpms and put you in SAFE MODE

Well I tried again and I’m still in “safe mode” how do I remedy that? I totally disconnected the throttle cable and hooked it back up. Same issue.

Thanks for the link but unfortunately it didn’t help me much. All I did was replace a throttle cable and now my motor seems to be stuck in safe mode. I have tried everything I can think of to reset it etc to no avail. If it is required to be on a laptop with software then I will need to take it in.

safe mode has several causes and the only way to find out if it is a fuel issue (generally a non detectable issue by the EMM sensors like fuel restictions) is to connect a PC (cheap basic PC with windows 10 and USB ports) and check the active fault codes stored in the EMM.

as a ETEC owner it is highly suggested that you acquire this " tool" .

Some basic versions like V5.0 can be downloaded free from the ETEC user board but a smal triangular cable is needed to link up to the EMM so you may as well buy new from on line suppliers ($$) or a dealer ($$$$) . It is the modern aspect of servicing these CPU driven outboards.

here is a write up on EV DIAGNOSTICS. Dealer service is fine but asmall investment may save you money in the long run.... up to you ! btw if you do get shop work insist for a PDF copy of the full report from your dealer. it is a simple request and you paid for it. it will also provide injector coefficients info for future needs,

Thank you for the informative response. Will it come out of safe mode automatically when the condition is corrected or does it have to be “reset”. Also where do I get the cable and software you mentioned? Thanks

some severe condition may require a reset now that you checked the TPS roller and cable it is possible some other condition has put your engine in Safe such as power issues oil issues etc...

getting EV diag is simple you can order from Evinrude delares ($$$$) or Amazon of places listed in the EV diag article I sent you .

this site... IBOATS can probably sell EV diag. so my not contact them since they provide this site for all us boaters to share " our problems"
