Throttle and gear cable installed incorrectly? 1980 115

A few years ago I lost my throttle cable and has a local dealer install a new one. Then we left for vacation and the the motor would not work. Took it back and they said the cable was installed incorrectly. Now it works but not the same as before. Sometimes when I geve it full throttle, it sends the motor up to 6500 before it settle back down, (I pull it back down) It also acts weird in other ways. I am wondering, might he have installed the wrong length cable or the wrong kind. It is a mystery to me. The old cable was very responsive and did exactly what it was supposed to do, this one seems all over the place, Anything I should be looking for?

sounds like a spun prop. if the motor is moving the boat in gear and when you go to get on it it revvs and settlels back down its almost always a spun prop. try marking the prop and the hub with a straight line of white out or something. if after taking it out with the same results and the line dosent line up, it needs a new prop or the old one needs to be re hubbed.
