Throttle binding??

Hi, I have a '99 Mercury 150 XR6, OG824125. I just changed the control cables.
When I go to forward, the throttle feels fairly stiff, but in reverse it is smooth and easy. It is the same when disconnected from the motor. I checked in the control box but don't see any binding.
Any ideas or has any one else had this happen??

Sounds like you didn't put everything back in the right place. My quicksilver was very tightly packed with wires etc.Took me a few goes at packing it all back so nothing was obstructed.lucky I took a photo.

A kink in the throttle cable could do that.

Re: Throttle binding??

The cables slide easily in the conduit and have only a slight curve until they get to the stern. I will investigate the box more closely next week, but all I did in it was remove the nuts that hold the cables.
I'm just confused by the stiffness in forward while being easy in reverse.
Thanks for the input.

It's done with cams. You'd be surprised at what a bit of grit will do to it.

If you have a side mount control box, take the handle off . It might be the detent block under there that is broke, and binding.

Re: Throttle binding??

My 92 Rinker has a 3.0 Merc and the throttle is binding you can almost hear it meatal to metal inside of the control box, however when I push the button to use the throttle only for warm up it does not bind, and the bind occurs past the point of transmission engagement when the button is not depressed. my question is does the control box need greased or taken apart to see what is binding, and how do you get it apart? It is all done from the back side? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Throttle binding??

Read my post #5.

It has to come off, but may be left dangling on the cables to work on it. It's better to pull it out and put it on the bench.
