Gday, I am trying to perform my first l & s on my new to me 1982 2cyl 60hp. First task according to the clymers is a throttle cable adjustment, when i move the control lever slowly back the nearest the stop screw gets to bottoming out is approx 3/16" away from the stop, it will push back easily though as if there is some wear in the cable/linkages, the screw is neither all the way in or out. Trouble is, when i adjusted the trunnion nut on the cable to bottom out the screw it throws the throttle cam and follower adjustment way out if you get my drift. Should i be adjusting the stop screw or the rod adjustment between the lever and cam maybe instead of the trunnion so much to prevent things from getting way out of wack? Or is a new cable needed? I realise i will be adjusting the timing later in the procedure but dont want to just go do something thats not mentioned in the manual and then find the timing is off.

Any help greatly appreciated,
Cheers.

DO NOT USE THE "CLYMERS" get the OEM Johnson/Evinrude manual for your particular motor. Clymers are general info directions, not specific to your motor. each motor has slight different measurements and sequence.

read timing, in the TOP SECRET FILE.

Actually, link & sync should be done with the throttle cable disconnected as it has absolutely nothing to do with the process. When you are done with the link & sync, THEN adjust the throttle cable. Hold the throttle linkage on the engine against the idle stop. Then bring the cable end up to the attachment point on the linkage (throttle handle in neutral of course). DO NOT push or pull on anything -- if the cable end lines up exactly with the attachment point no adjustment is needed. If not, adjust the trunion until it does line up. Attach the cable and be on your way.

Any idea how much a shop would charge for a link and sync on a 1988 90hp johnson?

Unfortunately for me, aquiring a genuine service manual means having to order one online paying through the nose and then waiting while it arrives from overseas as they dont exactly grow on trees here. In any case, having one will not solve the problem i mentioned in my original post so i will be taking the boat to the shop to have it sorted on this occasion. Can anyone recommend a good online source for the manual?

Cheers.

ebay - make sure you have your motor model number and ask the seller if your motor is in that particular manual.

I found mine from searayman13.
