Throttle Cable adjustment instructions please 1996 3L

I'm trying to adjust idle with idle screw, but need to extend throttle cable a bit so screw comes closer/touches to cam. (I think this is what I need to do to slow down the idle when warm)
How exactly do I do this?
-There is a brass "nut" part way up the cable that looks like if turned, it would change length of play because it goes on to a threaded part
- there is a piece towards the throttle screw from that that does what? Maybe just a support but also looks like it may be an adjuster of some kind?

remove the cable from the carb linkage, make the adjustments needed, attach cable to carb lever, adjust barrel to fit the stud.and add 2-3 turns for slight down pressure .to force carb closed
