Mercruiser 3,0l in Bayliber 175.
While observing the gearshift linkages and throttle on the carb, I advance the throttle lever forward (or into reverse, doesnt make any difference) and the first thing that happens is that the boat goes into gear, with no increase in engine rpms. Only then after significant further movement of the lever does the throttle cable start to move at the carb, thus applying power. So far so good.
When I take the power off though, the rpms stay a little high (12 - 1300) even when I have the throttle lever in the "in gear idle position". The throttle only becomes fully closed when I finally move the throttle lever all the way back to neutral (and of course the boat is now out of gear).
I cant adjust the outer throttle cable any further (make it shorter) as with the throttle lever in neutral, the butterfly spindle on the carb is hard against the stop, any shorter (outer) and it will be straining something.
What can I do? Is the problem in the throttle lever assembly, in that the system doesn't seem to close the throttle completely until the lever is so far back towards neutral that the gears are shifted to neatral as well.
