Hi Folks,
I have restored a 1967 Starcraft that has a 50HP '73 Evinrude on it. On my maiden voyage (and one thereafter) I have found that I am unable to get my engine to WOT. The problems are these:
* I can get in gear (one Lever controller) and can take the throttle lever to the stop (at about 90 degrees). But, the engine does not get much past idle.
* I have taken the cover off and messed with the throttle cable adjustment some, and was able to make the problem change. I was able to turn it and got the boat to plane out, and speed up to 24MPH. However, it would eventually lose that setting and slow back down.
* This is the setup that came with the boat, but who knows if it is original equipment. I'm sure the problem is in the throttle cable, but I'm not sure if the problem in in the controller itself, or at the engine end.
* I don't have a tach, but I suspect one is in my future (if I can retro fit one to that motor)
Would anyone care to offer some advice? I've completely restored the boat, and it came out great, so I'm not a complete dunce, but I've got little experience with working on outboards....thanks!!
