Throttle cables

Hello

We had a few days of nice weather here in Northern Michigan, so I decided to work on the boat. I took a few pictures of the motor. I looked at the cables and indeed the ends on both the shift and throttle have been cut for some reason. The previous owner supplied me with a new cable. I'm confused though......the cable only has a threaded end with a nut on it. I looked at where the cables are supposed to connect to the motor and it seems that maybe the cable is incorrect or there are parts missing from the motor.......

Here are pictures of the motor, which is an 85 HP Mariner..........

Can anyone tell me how to connect these cables? What parts are missing and where to get them?

Thanks

Re: Throttle cables

The motor looks OK. The cables should have a brass wnd with an eye on the control side and a plastic end with a small hole on the motor side. I suggest you visit a marine store and look at the correct cables to see what you have,

Re: Throttle cables

Does anyone know where I could find a picture or diagram that would show how the throttle and shift cable connect to this motor?

Thanks

Re: Throttle cables

Trip, The shift cable is the bottom cable. The barrel nut fits into the lower hole in the clamp, and recesses into the shift slider. The end of the cable fits on the pin under the peanut shaped piece of aluminum, which pivots to hold the cable in.

The throttle cable barrel nut fits the top hole in the clam and attaches to the throttle arm, directly above the shift slider. There is a piece of plastic that pivots to lock it in place.
