throttle cam question

1989 Evinrude 70hp

When the motor is in neutral and the roller is all the way down on the cam, there is about a milimeter or less in between. Its not touching...the motor still idles and everything and everything seems to be ok, but I was just checking to see if this was ok.

obviously when its throttled up it makes contact, but I was just curious.

As the cam advances the roller should contact the cam at a mark embossed on the cam. This synconizes the ignition advance with the carburetor throttle plate opening. The roller must not touch the cam because the throttle plates must be fully closed at idle for the motor to run correctly.

On my 96' model 70 hp the linkage roller is set to "just touch" the cam and aligned on center with the scribe line of the fiber cam when in neutral.By just touching I mean that you can easily rotate the roller with the drag of a finger.Otherwise insure that the carb plates are fully closed in neutral and fully open horizontal at full throttle postion.
