First off let me say that I'm not an expert on boat motors. However I have worked on cars and motorcycles for most of my life and some boat motors as well, even owning my own motorcycle shop at one time. That being said I've read the posts concerning power issues and I'm about to buy another boat that has a 50 hp Merc Thunderbolt motor. This motor has been completely gone through, wires, carbs, water pump etc. but seems to have issues with bogging when the throttle is opened. I haven't had a chance to get into the motor yet but before I do the first thing I'm going to check is the throttle cable adjustment. I've seen this issue before on motorcycles and it's usually because whoever put it back together didn't take the time to check it out before they started tearing into things. I was taught that you should always check the easiest things first, and yes I have overlooked things in the past only to find that the problem was something simple. I firmly believe in "KISS" (keep it simple stupid) Hope you all have a great day on the water!
