throttle conversion

I need some help. I have a 1980 25ft buc sailboat, without a motor. I have put a mount on the stern for an outboard, and have been given an outboard for it. It is an 8hp Nissan that was originally factory installed on a 1991 F-27. It was connected with remote controls and does not have a twist grip throttle handle on it. It is an electric start, alternator, and remote fuel tank. The problem: I would like to convert this back to a manual twist grip throttle handle, but don't know how to do it, and if it is possible at all. Any help would really be appreciated. Thanks

Re: throttle conversion

Hi Ken1!
Welcome to iboats!

I can't help you as i don't have the whole picture. I just ask you a lot of questions instead, sorry about that.

First, do you think you have all the parts, such as the tiller handle? If you also have a repair manual you'll be fine. There is no Nissan/Tohatsu manuals if you follow the link below. Try your dealer for that and the missing(?) parts.

Second, wouldn't it be easier to sell it and buy another engine? I think there is a lot of sailboater's who would love a remote.

Re: throttle conversion

Well, I don't have the tiller handle, or the other parts. I don't really want to sell it, since it's a really good motor. I wonder how much it would cost to add the tiller handle, or put it on my boat and keep it remote control?
