Throttle Gradually Slows ?

Hello,

I have a 19 DC, the throttle handle will not stay in the position that I leave it. I always have to keep a hand on it or it will gradually slow down.

Is there a way to tighten the handle / cable so that this will not happen?

Thank you for the help

First off, unless you are at idle in nuetral, you should always have a hand on the controls. That said, it is an odd problem, we would need more info, engine type/manufacturer/year/HP and control type for starters.

My old Glastron did that, I found out my grandfather put a return spring on the carbs for whatever reason.

A friend in 1980 had an 18ft Baja with a 115hp Merc. The throttle control was set up to return to neutral for safety reasons. That being if the operator was disabled or thrown out the boat would come to a stop hopefully before hitting anything or anyone.

Look for a knob or lever on the controll marked throttle tention, or throttle friction.

If you have one tighten it a bit.

my '97 Johnson had a friction adjustmant knob/screw at the rear of the controller box. If it was set too loose the throttle wouldn't stay put. If your Merc doesn't have one I'd suggest there are worn parts in the control box...

Most side mount controls have a knob on the front of the control box, or a screw accessable through a hole in the front or back end of the box. This is the throttle friction adjustment.
