Is there anyway to make throtle control handles move a little smoother? Because mine are a little rickety and its a pain in the as%. I know this probably has to do with the cables themselves, but is there a way to smooth it out a bit?

Assuming it's the boat in your sig ...

When was the last time you greased them? Remember, too, that you're moving two sets of controls with dual helms. The controls will never be as easy and smooth as boats with only one helm.

If they are really hard to move, the flybridge helm cables may be corroded.

Their regular twin lever controls (2 for trans, 2 for throttle). Its on a dual helm setup with T/ 260 hp Mercrusier small blocks. I've had the boat for about 8 yrs and i never greased them. Where and how do u grease them.

Re: Throttle Handles

There are 2 things you might want to do. First, forget about lubing the existing cables. They have the lubricant encased in the sheath, and they only move about 2", from full forward to full reverse, so there really is no way to work the lube into the entire length of the cable.

First, consider swapping out the cables for new Teleflex XTremes. Equal to Morse 33C Supremes. Second, if your binnacles are cabled in "series", i.e. upper station cables to lower station, lower station to motor, you should consider Teleflex Dual Station transfer boxes, like the ones shown here...

Upper station and lower station cables routed to the boxes, then single cables connected to the engines...

Even if you were able to lube the cables; that would make them harder to operate. Cables are not lubeable.

You may take your control boxes apart and put some white grease on the moving parts. I would bet that would make a huge difference.

Re: Throttle Handles

I plan to run new cables this fall, but rebuilt my shifters a few weeks ago. BIG difference! Disassembled, cleaned off the old crap which had become "sticky", and lubed 'em up with enough white lithium to squeeze a bowling ball through...you get the point. It may or may not help you, but either way it probably needs to be done.
