Throttle in reverse?

I have only had the boat out a couple times (I am going thru every maintenance item i can). Anyway its a 2000 5.7 GSI DP-SM. When i put it in reverse i cant seem to give it any throttle. This is my first Volvo PENTA and first DP. Just wondering if that is normal or do I have some cables out of adjustment. Seems that occasionally i would want too “throttle up” is some docking situations. Any thoughts?

You should definitely be able to throttle up in reverse. Is the throttle handle moving backwards or does it go into reverse gear and then not allow you to pull back any further? When you move the handle from neutral it first engages the drive shift cable, then movement behind that first step is on the throttle cable. Can you get to the back of your throttle handle to see if the cable is moving? You should be able to see on your engine when the throttle cable moves on the engine side both in forward/reverse.

Okay great I thought maybe it was something weird with the dual prop. I will spend some time on it. Also see that someone disconnected the neutral safety switch on it. Hopefully i can find a micro-switch to fit it. the more I look the more I find LOL
