I have an 08 Suntracker signature party barge.

the boat shifts out of neutral easy, but as you push the throttle foreward its fairly stiff.. much more so than any other boat ive messed with, and its hard to be smooth with it.. It is as though it sticks.. then slips then sticks...

coming back on the throttle is worse.. apparently there is something spring loaded in there because as I back it off from wot its nothing.. nothing then there is an audible *shunk* inside the throttle assembly and it goes from perhapos 4k rpm to 2.. I literally cannot throttle down from 4k to 3K it slips to 2 then I throttle up to 3.

disconnecting the throttle cable from the motor has no effect, the issue is in the throttle box.. HOW DO YOU GET IN THERE?

Ok i got the cover off, and the side plate so I could see the guts.

I cant make ryme or reason of whats in there.. but one one large cam there was a clear wear spot, where there was lots of metal/metal contact..

My Starcraft is Mercury powered. If I take the cover off the throttle control on the console, there is a friction bolt to adjust.

See if yours is similar.

If there is such a bolt, i have no idea where it is.

I cannot locate a manual or diagram for mine, as i have NO idea what model it is.

the housing says "mercury" and thats it.

here is a pic of the guts

the wear is what bothers me, you can see there is obvious metal/metal contact there, and im thinking thats not normal and that it is why the shifter sticks.

If it's the newer type control, the adjustment can be reached under the dash if you have room or you will have to partially remove the control to get to it. Does it look like this one?
